Update...

I typically weigh in for my official keeping myself accountable weight on Wednesdays. I weighed yesterday and was at a total lost of 12.6 lbs. I'm thrilled to continue to see that number on the scale go down. Dan has also been reaping the benefits of my diet, he has lost an additional 10 or so lbs since I started this diet. Pretty good considering that he still eats whatever he wants during the day and only eats "diet food" in the evenings and on the weekends. But still great for him!!
I'm still trucking along, we went to Red Robin for a work lunch...ugh so many work lunches lately....and was really good by only having a salad with chicken, and no dressing. Everyone else at the table had yummy looking burgers but I held my ground.
I've found that as long as I don't slip up and cheat I don't crave anything....but once I cheat I start having cravings...so I need to stay the course!

I've set a small goal for myself of 15 lbs by Halloween and 20 lbs by Thanksgiving. I figure I'll be eating pretty poorly over Thanksgiving weekend since we're going camping so I'd love to get to that magic number before the Holidays.

A weekend away = a weekend off....

Last weekend I was lucky enough to be able to have a girls weekend with some of my fabulous friends. I knew that I wouldn't be able to stick to the diet while I was out of town, but I wanted to try to be a little bit good. So instead of worrying so much about what I was going to eat and drink on the weekend, I focused on losing as much as I could prior to going on the trip.
I was able to get to 10.4 lbs lost on that Friday morning....so by getting to that magical 10 lbs number I decided to just enjoy the weekend.
I ate a lot, drank a LOT, and lounged a lot. I had more coffee than advised, more (LOTS MORE) alcohol than indicated, and more carbs than recommended....

But you know what, I had a great time and on Monday, when I stepped on that scale and saw that I was up 5 lbs from Friday, I didn't feel guild, or remorse, or anything of that sort. I felt equipped. I was okay with the gain, I had made a conscious choice to eat and drink what I did, and I knew that it would result in a gain...but I felt confident that I could quickly turn it around and not just completely fall off the wagon due to a weekend "off".

So on that Monday, I went back to a sort of modified phase 1, I really limited my meats, and by Friday I was down 11 lbs. And by today, Sunday, I am down 11.4 lbs.

I know that if I work the program, I will lose more, but I have to be realistic, I need to be able to have a night "off" enjoy some wine, or a beer, maybe have a piece of pizza....but I also know that if after that "slip up" if I get right back to the program I will continue to lose. So even though I only lost 1 lb over the course of last week rather than the 2+ that I had been losing, a loss is a loss and I'm still closer to my goal than I was before.

Cookies

Yup, cookies....as in yummy, sweet, warm cookies. Just the think I thought I wouldn't have for months....but alas I found this site and found these cookies. And while they aren't exactly Mrs. Fields, they are delish.
The recipe is as follows, with credit to buttercup kitty on 3 fat chicks.

1 banana smashed up (the riper the better)
1 cup of oatmeal, I used quick oats
2 packets of splenda
1 tbsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
1 egg white or 1/4 cup egg substitute
1/4 tsp salt
1/8 tsp almond flavoring...I didn't have it so I left it out.

Mix all ingredients, and place on a greased (I used pam) cookie sheet.
bake at 350 for 10-15 minutes.

The look a little odd, but taste great!!!

Dinner parties

Even though we haven't been going out to eat as much....emphasis on the as, since I've still been out to eat a bunch of times in the last few weeks....we have had a few dinners with friends and family.
While in phase one we had people over at our house so I could control the foods, I needed to be sure that I would not only have something to eat, but something interesting enough to keep me from eating other things. So for those first few times I made dinner, a usually chicken, brown rice, a large salad, and sauteed veggies. This way I could eat most everything but the meat.
Now that I'm in phase two, and can eat meat, it has been much easier to dine with friends.
But I should add that one of the things that really made it easier, was to be honest with my friends. I told them I was on a diet and that I might not eat everything that was cooked. This opened the door for them to ask what I would eat. That way I wasn't asking for anything special but they were aware. Both times that we ate at friends houses, they were more than happy to make sure there would be something for me.
Last night we ate a our great friend's the D's house. They were gracious and made plenty of options for me including salad, steamed broccoli and brown rice. I was able to eat almost everything that was made....and was satisfied and happy....enough to keep me from eating the amazing looking garlic bread that they made.

So my advice is to be honest and up front with people and at least that way you have a shot at having things you can eat, and not feeling like you have to stay home all the time to accommodate your diet.
